- UNIT III: Introduction to Mayan Calendar and Spirituality : Classes conducted in English for those interested in calendar and spiritual issues.
Objectives:
- Encourage literacy in and use of Mayan languages, especially by children of the Mayan Diaspora
- Introduce Mayan language and grammar to other interested community members such as students, teachers, and community workers.
- Encourage understanding of the wisdom and spirituality of the Mayan Calendar
The Maya Summer Language Project is pleased to announce an introductory language course in Q'anjob'al and K'iche' Language and Grammar. These courses are open to all and are especially designed for the children of native Q'anjob'al and K'iche' speakers living in the U.S. who want a brief introduction to their ancestral language. It may also be useful for teachers, travelers, community workers and other people interested in connecting with an indigenous language and world view. Curriculum consists of phonology, vocabulary and simple phrases, sentences and dialogue. Open for registration on May 27, 2010. Space is limited, so register early. Cost free to community members. Donations requested for materials and grammar books.
